Origins

Many years ago, back in 1984, my father purchased me my first computer at Christmas – the Commodore VIC-20. Boasting an impressive 3.5Kb of user memory and 22 by 23 character screen, the VIC is an extremely primitive machine by today’s standards. The next year, in order to ride the technology wave and to replace the VIC which had met an unfortunate end, my father upgraded me to a Commodore 64. It had a whopping 64 kilobytes of RAM, 16 colors at a resolution of 320 x 200 pixels, 8 color sprites, and superb sound. Plus, C-64 BASIC was easily learned by 11 year-old kids.

Sometime in 1985, I received an accessory for my C-64 that would forever change my life – the KoalaPad. The KoalaPad was one of the first graphic tablets ever devised for consumers. With the included KoalaPaint software and plastic stylus, I created some very striking 8bit graphics that would eventually be distributed globally – packed into demos and ‘greetz’ created by a variety of people around the world. Little did I know that this first emergence into computer created art would set the stage for the rest of my life.

Education

I attended the University of Georgia where I studied Art and Design. After an extensive portfolio review, I was accepted into the Art program where I began to learn a variety of advanced techniques. Studying under well known national talents, such as muralist Art Rosenbaum, was a tremendous influence to me and by the time I graduated with a BFA in 1996 I had already participated in over fifteen group and solo exhibitions of my work.

Professional

I had always maintained extreme persistence with my digital medium and had nurtured my computer skills since the early days of the C-64. Putting these abilities to work, I immediately entered corporate employment after college to begin my career as a Graphic Designer. Over the past nine years I have had the pleasure of maturing my career with MCI Worldcom, Computer Associates and Ross Systems as a full time employee. In addition, I have worked on numerous freelance projects with a variety of companies including Newspaper Services of America and Artis Systems (to name a few).
